If you decided to buy refurbished notebook, you have to make another, important decision - where to buy it. There are many online sellers that offer refurbished laptops but be very careful. Not all of them are reliable companies.
How To Choose A Good Reseller
There are several things you should take into consideration when deciding to buy a laptop from any online shop. Ask yourself these questions:
- Do you know some general information about the company?
- Do you know how long does this company sell online?
- Do you know where is the company located? Is their address clearly stated on their website?
- How popular is their site? How many visitors do they have monthly? To check it, go to www.alexa.com and use their search option on the seller domain. Then, check the Traffic Rank that is an indicator of domain popularity (TR = 1 means that this is the most often visited site on the Internet). If it is over 500,000 there are two possibilities: either it is very young site or nobody looks there because they are not worth it. In both cases you take the risk.
- Can you easily find all shipping options and costs on the sellers website?
- Can you easily find all payment information?
- Can you easily find all contact information and customer support information? Can you contact them by phone and e-mail?
- Do offers have good description? Can you really know from offer description what are you buying?
- Are the laptops really refurbished? Do they test it? Do they clean it?
- Do they have a choice of additional accessories like cases, mice?
- Do they have a choice of upgrade components like memories or hard drives?
- Can you easily find all warranty information?
- How long is the warranty period?
- Is battery also under warranty?
- Can you return non-defected product? How much is the restocking fee?
- Do they have secure server for your credit card information processing?
If answers for most of these questions are positive, this is probably safe and good place to buy your laptop. Of course not all questions are important for everybody. You may not be interested in accessories or upgrade components. But if you cannot find necessary address, shipping, payment, contact or warranty information, or company doesn't have secure interface for online shopping forget about it and go find another one.

You can use Google or other search engines. You may also go to DMOZ Computers/Hardware/Used Category to find human reviewed sites dealing with used computer equipment. There are some links to refurbished laptops resellers.
