Dell Inspiron 1150 Review
Inspiron 1150 is a slightly modified version of its predecessor. I only point out the differences between them here, so look at Dell Inspiron 1100 Review for full review.
First thing everybody, who has seen the previous model, notices is lack of blue casing elements. Whole Inspiron 1150 casing is silver or - as some people would call it - gray. I find blue nicer but that's the matter of individual taste.
Looking at the interior, there are two major changes. First are faster processors. You can meet 1150 models with 2.4GHz or 2.6GHz Celeron CPU's or Pentium 4 2.66GHz to 2.8GHz. With P4, except higher CPU clock, also FSB works faster at 533MHz giving additional performance boost. However, don't expect any revolution as it still works with PC2100 266MHz DDR memory modules and integrated graphics card that uses part of the system memory.
The second important improvement is internal wireless capability built in. Now you can install one of two optional Wireless LAN Mini-PCI cards and you don't have to use the only PC Card slot available as in previous model. The two cards differ only by supported protocol versions. The more expensive one supports 802.11 a/b/g while the cheaper only 802.11 b/g standards.
What's definitely worth mentioning is very long battery life, especially on 12-cell battery. This is also the case with Inspiron 1150 predecessor, but it seems that 1150 model can work even longer. Some tests prove that it may work for even 6 hours, when doing some low power consuming tasks. This is a result of using better, mobile optimized, low power Intel 852GMV chipset and display with about 1.3W lower power consumption than in 1100 model.
What's really hard to understand is why Dell decided to remove TV-Out port from Inspiron 1150. In fact that's the only thing that may tell against Inspiron 1150 in comparison with Inspiron 1100 model. Generally, faster CPU's, Wireless LAN built in and longer battery life make it a better choice.
